I got home with 100 rolls of nickels. It turns out that I have 100 mint condition rolls of 2026-D. Dated 1776 - 2026 I will try to exchange them.
I had that happen a few times many years ago. Twice I went through every roll and made two high grade rolls of each: 2001-D Vermont and 2002-D Tennessee. It got to be a bit boring, but I have some very nice coins now. Back then I just returned the rest to the bank, but as P&G and Jeff note they could be worth more to other collectors. You might also find an error or two, you never know!
With "Semiquincentennial fever" going on right now you could probably make a profit selling a few of those rolls. I wouldn't get rid of them yet. People aren't going as crazy over the nickels as over the dimes, quarters, and half dollars, but still.
I put them in a small box or a padded envelope with a a few plastics bags around them. The OP only has $2.00 into them and dealers are selling them for $3.00 a nickel. That’s $12.00 a roll so I don’t think it’s that costly to mail a few rolls.
Is Priority Flat Rate Small Box still the best bet for stuff like this? I seem to remember you can stuff quite a few pounds of coins into one of those. (If it's even still available - seems like it's been years since I've shipped anything...)
