The second battery was taking forever to charge, time to buy another one, or two. Just got done! Taking Photos now! Might be a while. Anyways what do you think of this one?
If y I am gonna tell you the truth. I bought this coin because it was so' original. If you look close these is heavy tape residue under trust on the Rev.
A split in toning I imagine could happen on a roll half folded. Maybe I have been looking at the coin all wrong.
I don't think that is tape. Usually tape covering prevents any toning at all underneath. It's definitely interesting and unusual, as well as attractive toning. I've got a 1884 O coin I'm sending in for grading. It was toned before I bought it. It has an interesting story, one that I'll show a before and after a few months later when it comes back from PCGS. Sending it in doesn't make economic sense, sometimes I just do things because I can.
Looks like something covered the right side of the coin and left the left side exposed to something that toned it. I'm not really seeing the tape residue but I only have a picture to look at. It probably looks different in hand. Bruce
You are assuming tape would have been applied before any toning had already occurred. I would think previous toning would not be removed by tape.
Can PVC tape cause permanent damage? Just looking again at this. Did you try a long acetone soak, would that help under TRUST? The reverse rim looks like it got beat up just along the edges, maybe just bag marks attrition. Would that get a damaged grade from a TPG? It seems they are all over the place with their straight or details grades with rim irregularities.
Not sure the tape had PVC in it but I could be wrong. I know that they make a PVC tape that sticks well to PVC plumbing etc. I haven't done a soak on the coin. I don't mind the tape residue and wouldn't in this instance take a chance of changing the toning. We'll see.
The rim dings are much worse in the photos than in hand. I imagine the TPG's could take issue and give it a mid or low AU grade. By the way this is a 1884-O VAM-14 O/O Right High, Far Date, Doubled Tail Feathers
I don't believe acetone will change toning at all. (I've tried) Just don't E-Zest it. What's ironic is I have a 18840 that I'm sending to PCGS soon that previously had a"questional color"details grade from ANACS. I did a little sorcery on it and will post when grades come back.
I know that this has a bit of organics on it. Being partially taped into a folder or Album. My point was that I don't want to change the coins appearance by removing whatever is contributing to the look.
