Tired of missing things and having my dreams crushed by my LCS when I bring in coins. Is there a regular grading class on the west coast somewhere? Anyone have recommendations? Tired of amateur hour with myself Thanks!
I'm not sure if they still do it, but PCGS has done grading classes at Long Beach before and has this site as well with their grading videos https://www.pcgs.com/education. Other than that I think you would have to go to Colorado for the ANA course or do their correspondence one.
I think the ANA offered a one day grading course when the World's Fair of Money was in Anaheim. I know it's a bit expensive but if I'm going to learn grading I'm going to the ANA's summer seminar. Hopefully it'll happen in the next few years.
Contact your local coin club. Many of them have people willing to teach a class for a little beer money, and some of them have been past instructors at major classes, summer seminar, etc. If there is a big regional show, ask there too.
Brett, Highly recommend the PCGS grading classes. They're held in conjunction with the Long Beach shows. I've taken two. Videos of the classes are available for download too, but going to the live classes is better. In the live class, you meet other collectors, can ask questions, chat with PCGS officials (Hall himself often shows up), and there's is also a self-graded (no pun) test where coins are passed around for you to grade. Lunch is included, and you get a slabbed presidential dollar with a special label for the class. Cal
Best is the ANA Summer Seminar in June. Its a week long (or 2 weeks if you take beginning then intermediate) but you are being taught by world class TPG graders and get to hang with a bunch of coin geeks in beautiful Colorado Springs.
I would go and talk to Steve at Americana rare coin in Sacramento who is supposed to ex PCGS grader and is in your backyard
