Why double? Well this coin was first graded by PCGS and then by CACG. I picked it up in the CACG slab (and did not submit either time). So what grade do you think PCGS gave it and what did CACG give it?
Love the CACG image (and coin). Nice toning. Based on the cheek area, and that is particularly important area on Morgans, I'm thinking MS63 at PCGS. AU58 at CACG? Not confident in that answer, but eagles chest feathers make me think that.
And the reveal.... PCGS MS 63 -> CACG MS 61 I'm not sure why someone decided to cross or crack as the coin seemed appropriately graded at the 63 level in a nice PCGS anniversary slab. Maybe they wanted a photo and with PCGS TrueViews being less than ideal, opted to go the CACG route. The positive is that the photo turned out nice. Back to the grade, I think MS 63 is correct (perhaps one can say it's a 62 with a color bump to 63). I think MS 61 is harsh.
Of course we're just looking at images here, but how many times have I seen coins with that same color profile come back as "questionable color" or something like that. I am literally toning illiterate.
I think that MS-61 is on the low side. It could be that CACAC under grades to get higher prices for their products. I haven’t looked at a lot of CACAC items, but what I have seen, and the one piece I have, are conservatively graded. I’ve also seen some very high asking prices which offset the conservatism.
