I opened a mint roll of 2007D Washington dollar coins. I found both Type A and Type B in the roll. Was this mistake only at the Denver mint? How did both types get mixed in the same roll? Is there one more valuable than the other? Thanks for your input.

You’re referring to the edge lettering.

Position A-the edge lettering reads upside down when the president’s portrait faces up.
Position B the edge lettering reads normal when the president’s portrait faces up.

The position first applied when the presidential dollars came out how however, this now applies to all presidential dollars, native American dollars and the American innovation dollars. Neither position is rare than the other. The reason for the two positions is the edge lettering is random. The edge lighting is applied after the coins have been struck by the verse and reverse dies. When the edge lettering is struck the coins go through that machine with either the offers or reverse up or down. That’s why you see position an and B of the edge lettering different.
There is no additional cost for one being rare than the other. It’s just the way they’re made. I believe if you have the coins slabbed by a TPG, PCGS will attribute position a or B on the coins label for no extra charge.
And positioned a and B occurs on any of the mints, Philadelphia Denver or San Francisco. Hope this helps.
