Unfortunately, I think Jack alone would be completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of counterfeits eBay permits to be listed, to the point that he'd be unable to spend time on the truly deceptive fakes. Even if he had a team to delegate to so that he could focus only on the most dangerous counterfeits, it is unlikely that eBay would financially support that sort of staff. Had eBay devoted their resources to such an undertaking long before it grew so far out of control, they could have gotten ahead of it. As things presently stand, they are so far behind there is little chance of them ever taking control of the situation . . . I think eBay will wither on the vine until it turns grey and rots, leaving fertile soil for another venue to grow in it.
The fleaBay culture is really hurting legit sellers and unsuspecting buyers. They've made their bed, now they will have to live with the fallout. That being said, I have a short list of trusted sellers. I'll continue to buy from them when something of interest comes up.
I actually had an eBay internal phone interview for the then listed eBay Counterfeit Coin Specialist; shortly after the call I got a rejection email and they pulledd the job posting... I actually tried!
I was going to make a crack about "in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act they hired a blind person to fill the position" - but then I remembered that we actually had a blind member here some years ago. (I'm still not sure he would've considered himself the best candidate for inspecting listing photos, though.)
