Canadian Modified

Hello,
I've been collecting Canadian (modified) 1 oz Maples mostly.
Bought one Loonie.
Have a few now, interesting relief from buying bullion.

When you say "modified" what do you mean exactly? Are these done at the mint or by some after-market party?
