The 1903-O went for way too much for me; we'll see if there are any comments after it is received...

I had the opportunity to review this article on Sunday's Coin Show Podcast- I noted that articles like that normally get 1-2 responses, but this one had 37 last count last night!

Thanks to @Barney McRae for the subject matter!!!

I kept that coin on watchlist, it hammered for $675 plus postage.
I listened to your podcast, I skipped forward to the 26 minute mark to find this discussion. Do your podcasts have video on the site?

OK, the "seeded roll" had a counterfeit FE; I will start a new post on this one.

    Stay tuned:D...

It's a shame the Secret Service no longer enforces counterfeit coin operations and sellers of them. I know because I called them and the fellow I spoke to apologized and said they no longer did that.

Actually not that unusual for the better counterfeits. Back in the early 20th century when the micro O fakes were being made the coins had full silver weight. At the time the silver in a dollar was only worth about 25 cents. Sure the counterfeiters could scrimp a few cents on the silver, but by keeping them full weight and fineness they could much more easily pass their fakes undetected and make the 75cents on each of them.

The same logic applies to more recent fakes. Scrimp a few dollars on the silver content, and it makes you fakes easily recognizable because they are underweight. Since you aren't making your money by shorting the metal content but rather on the collector value, it makes much more sense to keep the metal content right so you can pass more fakes.

That username, antiquesandcoins09, was giving me an unpleasant itchy sensation in the back of my mind. I just found the thread that explains why.

    https://www.cointalk.com/threads/thr-associates.205515/page-4

I have no reason to believe this account has any relationship at all to the old THR syndicate, erm, organization. But given that gang's history, particularly on eBay under all the coinsantiques.xx IDs, it seems like a really unfortunate choice for a username.

KARMA!!!!!! What's crazy is that seller has been around doing this forever, and sold thousands of items. Thanks again, when a plan comes together! (I'll bet they will emerge under a new name though)

Unbelievable. eBay keeps allowing this kind of garbage to go on. I'm not posting photos because it's time consuming and the link is below. 1882 CC Morgan "supposedly" in a PCGS slab MS63 for 89.99 "buy it now". No sellers reviews, based in California. "14 Sold Today!" o_O The photos check out with PCGS Gold Shield photos online but I've seen the bait and switch before with stolen copy and pasted photos.

Wow, just looked and there are 5 different unique sellers advertising the same coin at the same or lower prices. (same PCGS verification number and photo). How do these crooks get away with their scams, being that eBay refunds buyers for returns?:muted:

I have talked to folks in the past, in fact back into the 70's they sold these coins as fakes. It doesn't surprise me that they are getting away with it blatantly.
One of those folks I ran across even got raided by the SS and other agencies. His books were in order and they confiscated his product. Didn't pay a price. Ebay is playing with in the limits of the law knowing they are selling fakes on a regular basis, it's sad IMO. This seems like a very easy problem to deal with.
