Hello all, I am not the best with large cent grading. Any thoughts on what the grade of this is? Asking price is $180. Thanks, Sting.

Based off the photo, I'm seeing surfaces that look off (cleaned or altered). It appears to have XF to AU details but I think it is a problem coin.

I agree something seems off and it could be the pictures, but I agree seems to be like AU details. I would look for a problem free example.

Like the others said, as soon as I saw it I thought, altered surface. Though I can't really pinpoint exactly what. I think looks nice, but it should be sold at an discount.

Sure nice looking but it’s an AU Details coin due to the coins surface being altered. I’d pass on this one.

AU I would call it. I won't say altered surface but the coloring and texture change on the obverse feilds make me suspect it would get a details grade.. if your willing to buy a details Large cent.. you can do much better for less then that price. or a nice clean AU piece for about that price.. That's all sticking with 1853 (with a high mintage for LCs at 6.6m only 1851 higher) a beautifuly struck coin detail wise but too high a "detail" risk for that money

I am in the AU camp. There is eveidence of circ on the cheek.
As far as the surfaces. There is definitely something odd about the area between 8 and 2 on the obverse, maybe stripped of some corrosion?

    AU details, cleaned and retoned.

    Definitely not worth $180.

Nice coin except that surface issue turns it into a problem coin, I'd pass! :cigar:
