Hi all. Been a while. Life and could not sign in. A friend’s dad has these beautiful medals that were in his 1920s Herring Hall Marvin safe from his dad, over 54 years ago. Only word to describe them. Beautiful. Enjoy!
Neat medals. I imagine they are white metal. Is that part of the design. It looks like hefty cracks coming from the bird.
It’s part of the design. This one is an extra one outside of the set. The full set is behind the plexiglass. Pretty!
I have a buddy that collected this set. I believe they are all silver. Graded ones bring silly money. They are cool medals.
Here is one that is also a McNamara piece. It is quite rare due to being a personaly made for a numismatic club with a very low mintage compaired to other pieces. Some of the information about these pieces can be hard to locate. I read somewhere that there is at least 61 pieces in the complete collection, all done in sterling silver.
That is a really tough collection to put together these days. Mintage's seemed to be strong from their inception year (1959) through about 1969. Starting in 1970, production numbers seem to fall off, probably due to rising silver prices during that decade. There are 60 regular medals in the series, three issued per year. Each was sold in a serial numbered envelop with an accompanying certificate. I have seen envelopes numbered into the high #5,000's for the early years (presumably indicating approximate mintage's). By the late 1970's, The highest s/n# I've seen was in the low 1,700's. There is some strong demand for the medals minted 1976 and later. The series ended in 1978. I believe there were additional medals minted outside of the regular medallion series. These were called 'Occasional Pieces' and appeared to be issued one per year starting in 1961. Z
