I struck out on finding any more Type-C quarters. I did find at least one that has both DDO and DDR. This seems common for 1964 though.

Wow you found a type C quarter! Very very lucky find! The best way I've found to try and identify a type C 1964 D quarter is to keep a spare 1965 quarter around to compare it to. The reverse on the 65 is the same. I've been searching for a type C on every 64 D I come across for over a year now with no luck. Just to let you know they are not an easy find!

Took over a year of trips to my favorite coin shop in Denver to find a type C. I've looked through literally thousands of dollars in face value junk silver to find one.

Wow, then I definitely lucked out finding the Type-C if it took that long for you guys to try finding them. It stands out with the naked eye too, all the outlines are very crisp and sharp compared to a non-Type-C.

I'm doing more research on the pictures of the coin I posted with the potential DDR/DDO. There does seem to be a 1964-D with an FS-801 flag that commands good value, and the reverse in my picture I posted earlier does look like the picture on here http://varietyvista.com/09b WQ Vol 2/DDRs 1964-D.htm Thoughts? The reason this caught my attention was that the direction of the doubling is the same.

I had so much fun going through those quarters yesterday too.

The photo you posted is not of FS-801, unfortunately.

Thank you. I do notice the more smeared-like machine doubling now. I have an idea what to look for in DDO/DDRs now. That varietyvista website is very helpful and I'll use that from now on instead of having to post every coin on here.

I built an axial lighting display to take better pictures of my coins. I've been finding some interesting ones that I've set aside (a real DDR, Type-B/C, maybe Proofs?). I'll post soon my findings. As a coin-grading virgin, it is difficult for me to judge what coins that I have, if any, are worthy of submitting to PCGS/etc. I use PCGS photograde but I wish it gave more examples of each grade instead of just one. So far, this is my coin with the fewest contact marks. I have a few others that are similar. Worth grading?

Unless it's a Type C (I can't tell at a glance) and you may have to specifically tell them to attribute it as a Type C reverse, or they will just grade the coin,
or if it is better than MS-65, I wouldn't grade it, because the grading will cost more than the quarter is worth.

No Type-C on this one, just trying to gauge what a high MS would look like in person. I'm assuming it's too difficult to assess a proper grading of a coin through pictures, no matter how good the picture is taken. I can submit this one to ANACS since they're cheap, and it'll physically show me what the rated coin looks like in person and can compare it to my other coins.

I'm going to save those PDFs.

I think the last pic could be a 66 rim looks good,no wear seen from the pics and looks like a good luster might be present.I think the lighting is affecting it's real luster.PCGS guide @66 is $85 and knowing my luck always one to high it's probably gets a 65 @$26 value.Which means from my perspective put in a nice holder.
