Requesting info from anyone regarding this coin. The NGC World Coin Catalog has a listing for it that is ambiguous, so I am looking for information to confirm its value. So, how do I confirm this coin with this value range? Can anyone point me towards more info? Any dealer members here dealt with this before? Or, do I submit for authentication to confirm a value? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help…Spark
I don't look at those graphs at all, the link I use says the gold is worth $300 and change, add a fair premium, look at feebay and see what they're asking and decide what you'd like to pay, if you're selling same difference turned around, price of gold is down today, hope that helps. I'm sure someone else has a better way! Oh the weight is 2.1 grams at 22k. https://goldvaluecalc.com/
I'm pretty sure there are no re-strikes dated 1948. And if that's true, there's no apparent explanation of why the NGC chart shows $3K+ for a 1948 and just $300+/- for a 1947 (neither of which are restrikes supposedly), because the 1947s have lower mintage numbers than the 1948s. I've searched and searched for years on the internet for clarity/definitive info regarding the mintages and restrikes of Mexican gold. Lots of conflicting info and unsubstantiated opinions is all I've found so far . So this is my contribution to the unsubstantiated opinions on the internet.
UPDATE…(but the mystery remains). Contacted NumisMaster and was told they do not determine the prices/values listed, that they saw one auction sale at $600.00 in 2023 by PCGS and one for sale at EBay for $850.00, with no information pertaining to the rarity/scarcity of the 1948 date coin. I heartily thanked them for their response and information. THEN…I contacted NGC by way of the service department at CCG (Certified Collectibles Group). They responded the next day saying the listings are a compilation of several sources but set by the market. I RESPONDED offering a clarification of my question: What criteria did NGC apply to the values listed since their listings indicated a rare coin but that alternative sources and research indicated to the contrary. I stated I need this answered to declare a value prior to submission for authentication and encapsulation. CCG RESPONDED that they do not set the values as they are market driven and said to contact NumisMaster. (!!!!)…(????) So I got a great answer and info from NumisMaster who said their proprietary prices, available by subscription, were “in line” with prices online that they found. From NGC/CCG i got 2 non-answers and a finger pointed back at NumisMaster. So the mystery continues as does my quest for info.
