If you sold your WHOLE collection . . .

I can't believe I am STILL looking at the reverse and obverse of my Saint and LHDE purchased almost 3 months ago.

In the past, I always have packed up my purchases within a week or so.

This time, I guess the 6 years to get back to FUN and the time it took me to get some $$$ to spend there made it that much more appreciated by me.

I would say no. I think there are some coins I would part with, and as others have said go for few higher quality coins. However many in my collection are ones I bought as a child at my LCS, and have sentimental value. Others were given to me by my grandparents which are priceless too me and though they are not big ticket items, I would not part with for the world.

 

Yes, they are super nice coins. Saints are common, and we do not appreciate them enough. I have 37 US gold coins. The St. Gaudens is amazing esp. when MS-67 my 1908 No Motto cost me $800!
But the 1790s-1830s are magnificent designs, way nicer then Coronet. The Stellas are nice too. The 1915 $50 types really nice. The "Morgan" design Union 5 oz coin is beautifull. The bottom AV 20 Dukaten Basel, I do not own, wish I could.....sold for 1.6M Sfs. Th Austro-Hungarian AV 4 Dukaten 1848-A in one of my fav. I won it for a steal 5KUS Spink/ USA auction.

 

What a trade ! I saw a pair of MS-67 NM's (I don't believe they were Wells Fargo) @ FUN 2026....$6,700 each.

Lots of other nice coins, agreed. For me, part of the reason for buying these coins is the historical attachment to the country's economic and financial development.

 

Yes, I love coins too, for their link to the past. The first ones, maybe the Egyptian Tutenkamen silver ingots with value, weight, ruler in hierogyhics, or the Uncertain City States Ionia/ etc from natural electrum. Most had 60% gold/ 40% silver. German States, is my best group, have 450 gold coin. Germany struck 25% of all the gold, silver coinage struck. But there were thousands of states that minted coins, then some Cities had coins under Holy Roman Emperor/ Municipal City coinage/ Church coinage.......

I received my father’s coin collection when he passed in 2011. It is big and I have only added to it. I have no one to pass it down to and my brother’s kids are not into collecting ‘anything’ they cannot get their nose out of their cell phone long enough. I have a little of everything - complete sets - odds and ends - Canadian coins- paper currency. So yes, I will be selling it at some point, but adding to it made me feel closer to my Dad. It was something that we did together.

 

When you buy a gold coin for $1500 or so, it's not that much of a stretch to save up.

But a pair of coins at just under $5K....took alot of Ramen Noodles over sushi or Thai !!

I thought my Ex-wife hated my coins too but she still remembers the coin jewelry I gave her on occasions!

 

I sold off about 60% of my collection within the last month. I netted just a tad below market value, only because I was trying to move them fast. Everything ended up going to one buyer.

With shipping I didn’t use insurance solely due to the lengthy process of dealing with USPS red tape and previous denials for past claims.

I did my best to mix the shipments up with lower value coins and higher value combined. If I recall correctly, the highest value box I sent was roughly $8000 with the lowest being $3000 ish. Combined I sold around $19000 worth.

I’m certain I could have netted a few thousand more if I really took my time selling them individually but then I’d also have to consider how much I valued the time it would have taken to find multiple buyers and or listing times and fees. The fast and easy way was the best option for me. Everything was done and gone and I was paid all within a weeks time.

 

My wife, was a lawn client before. I always cut her place, no shirt on, she asked me out, rest was history. She loved our first date, I picked her up in my corvette. After, I showed her my collection. I remember she was fascinated, that 2000 yr old Roman aurei looked as struck. I told her, the only thing that retains its beauty forever, is a gold coin, they don't age.
Later, she asked me if I loved my coin more then her? I said, both the same, Honey bunny She then gave me a big kiss!

 

Me and you both buddy. I had one about 15 years ago. I hated it. I only surf the web on my laptop. I mute 95% of the calls I get on my dumb phone. If I don't have your number, I don't know you!

IF you have a home phone. I haven't had one for 20 years. Who wants to pay 60 bucks a month for a land line? Not me. I pay 20 a month for full connectivity now for cell reception pretty much anywhere in the US. Not sure what that's like in Canada, maybe you guys don't pay much for land lines. In the US, it's expensive. Anymore, I just look at the area code and if I'm expecting a call I'll answer. But mostly if they are legit, they'll leave a message. I fully understand if you are operating a business you can't operate the way I do. But I am not, so........

 

Wow! How did you get one that cheap. Mine is $114/month plus taxes and other "fees", and that's for just a standard landline. And it's worked, I think 4 days in the last 2 months. I know I've got a grand total of 6 minutes talk time during that billing period. And, because it's the old copper wired line, they won't even come check it out. They are not spending any more money on copper wire lines. So, they're making me change to a "phone advanced" plan. So they sent me the magic box that will do this. They assured me it would work here, even though I told them it probably wouldn't because my cell signal is so weak. Well, it's here, and it won't work, lol. I spent 3 hours talking to a tech, with him trying everything he could think of, but to no avail. Yes, I know. I live in the country. There's not enough customers to pay them to "fix it". But, I'm not moving to town to get a phone. Besides, I wouldn't be a member of any town that would have me, lol. OK, I'm off my soap box. Let's get back to coins. I could make money by selling my Franklin Half collection for melt. But, I absolutely refuse to even consider it. My Halves are all circulated, no great coins there. But, if I sold them and they were melted, I would feel awful! Just that many more removed from someone wanting to put together a set sometime in the future. So, no, mine's not for sale. You couldn't call me about it on my landline anyway, lol.

 

To answer your question, that's what it was when I cancelled my service many moons ago.

Here its 29.99 C$ for landline. I have my internet, HDTV program all bundled with Bell, so I pay 19.99 for my phone.
So I pay 218.00 for whole package. With Rogers, I paid $670.00
