As I took a closer look at what you all were referring to, I noticed some other traits. Namely, at the bottom left of the star - at first I thought it was wear, but it looks more like a grease filled die and a die clash of the other side's inner "C" designs (?). Does anyone know?? Also, what I thought was a scratch on the bottom right above the last "8" digit in 1858 may simply be a die clash of the "C" (!?). And, this pic shows the toning on the coin a lot better than the previous pics. Thanks in advance!
The grade is up for this one. Interestingly, after speaking with NGC over the phone before the coin was graded, they told me that paying for common "Mint Errors", such as die clashes on this one, is too common so they won't bother with labeling it as such. That was odd, given that I thought that's what selecting "Mint Error" was for... and I think I've seen "common" die clash errors labeled. I have a feeling customer service gave me the wrong info or I'm not fully understanding it... but I opted out of the Mint Error designation, as per their info. I forgot to ask for the VarietyPlus attribution in lieu of the Mint Error. Anyway, here's the grade - make your guess before clicking on the spoiler! Spoiler AU-50
I'd say AU if I saw more luster. EF45 minimum. Aha- just saw the second set of pix. Definitely a solid AU. I haven't peeked at your "Spoiler" link, yet- gonna go check my work, now...
