If this seller continues to try to sell coins, I don't think they'll be around long. Did you also notice the new spelling of nickels in the auction - "knickles"? I also like how they state that they are not responsible for what is sold since it's an "Ebay Drop Off Store". What a bunch of bull. I'm tempted to buy something just so I can neg them for the super high shipping.
I would have even understood it if they were charging $5 for Priority. It's still higher than necessary to cover postage and shipping materials, but $8.85 is right out of the ball park.

These nickles are from years 1906, 1908, and 1911 With a wonderful description and three pristine coins along with the bargain shipping price. Looks like a missed opportunity to me You guys must be too picky. How else could you pick up 3 forty cent coins for the bargain price of $9.99 plus $8.95 shipping.
I was going to buy them, but I didn't have any money left from the great deal I got on the Trade Dollar from China. I'm sure that even though I only paid $20 for it, I should be able to resell it for $500.
$8.85 for shipping to Chicago too, I think I can drive there in my car for less in gas than that. 8.85/$1.70per gallon=5.2 gallons of gas * 40 mpg in my Saturn= about 210 miles that I can drive for $8.85. Now from southern Chicago suburbs to his store in Granger, IN its about 92 miles (from Mapquest.com), so a total round trip of about 185 miles. Looks like I can even get lost on the way and drive an extra 25 miles trying to find my way again lol! and still make it for less! Yes, I know, way too much time on my hands
I wonder what made you look at shipping prices, after 9,99 starting bid But, about inflated shipping rates, does it make any differense for you to win a roll of silver dimes for $10 and pay $10 shipping or win it for $18 and pay $2 shipping?
It matters in the final fees paid to eBay. As someone who follows the rules and has to pay all of the fees, I get really angry when I see an auction like this one. Final fees are not charged on shipping/handling. Also, this seller is apparently a new Ebay Drop Off store. I have a problem with the whole concept of eBay Drop Off because it means that the people listing the items know squat about what they're listing. I also think that this particular seller is trying to recoup additional money through s/h that they aren't entitled to, just to make a larger profit per auction. A $5 handling fee (without the ability to combine any shipping) is outrageous by any standards. Speaking as someone who is in the eBay trenches, and who sells on consignment, I know that there is an honest, correct way to do it and there is a dishonest, wrong way. This seller has chosen option 2. I also have a problem with them stating in the auction that they should not be considered the seller and that they are only a "bailee" assisting in the sale. Yet, they have the product in their possession, they take the pictures, they design the listing, they handle customer service, and they do the shipping. For them to state in the auction that they are not responsible is an out-and-out lie and they would lose if it were taken to court. Looking at the big picture, that lack of responsibility can lead this franchise into selling quite a few things that are fake or fraudulent in some way and lay blame on the consignor. They are taking the easy way out and buyers suffer for it. Even though they accept returns, they keep the $5 handling fee, which means that they have ensured the fact that they will make money on every auction even if they don't do it correctly. They obviously don't even proof read. I think this is a slipshod operation that just put eBay that much closer to being a flea market. So, to answer your question, yes I think there is a difference between paying $18 for an item and $2 shipping or $10 for the item and $10 shipping.
That's true. And I could see how easy it would be to mistake the roman 5 for a 10 or the word "DIME". I'm probably just being too picky.
Probably explains why they didn't sell. Or it could be the slipshod auction, or it could be the incorrect title bar, or it could be the outrageous shipping - gee, actually there were more reasons for a "no sale" than a sale

Knickels misplelled? Did you ever think that the Seller might be from New York?....Home of the Knickerbockers? He might also commonly mispell or misuse others words or names of the english language : Old Saint Knick, Knicholas Cage, Sknickers Candy Bar, Just a Nick off the old block and so on.
