Today is the day I usually print up (and post next to my computer); my collecting objectives for the New Year. Naturally, my computer ran out of ink. Come to think of it that might also be a tradition. This year I have to be little more vague about part of my plan. I am still deep in the research and planning stage for what will become my new fascination; Barbers. 1. I am still in search of 2 specific types of Fortin top 100 coin types. I have 10 but made a list of 12 ( 4 years ago) so I have some unfinished Seated dime plans. 2. I also have a small group of Seated coins that are on my radar. 5 Seated Dimes. 3 Seated Quarters. 5 Seated Halves. 3. I have put proof Indian cents in my lists for 4 years now but must admit the competiton is fierce. 4. I do have a basic plan for Barbers but for the most part dates and mints are wide open. My primary focus will be on my Barber Dime date set, but it is in my collecting DNA to look for varieties, popular or otherwise; see my recap of 2025 if you want to know more about that. 5. I am also going to try and get starter sets of Barber Quarters and Halves going. If I somehow manage even 2 or 3 of either denomination I will be thrilled. 6. My final comment is about holders rather than coins. I have made it a primary goal to see what coins are still available in the old White ANAC Small holders; but it will always be the coin first. Good luck to everyone else. I hope you all have a wonderful New Year and find some of the coins you might be making a list of and checking twice. James
Sounds like you will have plenty of fun and a nice set of coins even if only several items from that want list are found. And as I'm sure happens to many of us, you will almost certainly run into something outside of that want list which draws your eye.
@ddddd . Yes. One of the most fun aspects of coin collecting is that you can set an agenda but then the coins you actually find tend to change the course over time. James
As of this morning I am back in my own home. Only made it 2 days before getting sent back last time. Here is hoping round 2 goes my way. Thank you for asking @ddddd . I did have 1 big surprise waiting for me. 3 weeks ago I put a bid on a coin. That coin was waiting for me on my desk. I will post more on that later. James
One thing that's been bugging me for years is the last empty slot in my Dansco 7070: seated liberty dollar with motto. I want one in decent enough condition to clearly see the motto, so like XF at least. It's... doable I think but I'm waiting until after my vacation in July to start saving up for it. Later I might work on upgrading some things in that album, but filling an empty space takes priority! Other things... I don't know. I have some albums I may never finish in my lifetime because the missing ones are rare and expensive. I almost have Lincoln cents done but the last 3 I need are the big ones: 1909-S VDB, 1914-D, and 1922 plain. Maybe I can manage the 1914-D this year at least. Buffalo nickels and Mercury dimes I may never finish. Roosevelt dimes feels doable but the silver ones are hard to find other than just buying them (which gets expensive, and also feels like "cheating."). Coin roll hunting dimes is frustrating but I don't want to give up on it yet lol. Franklin half dollars feels doable as long as silver doesn't spike way up again. It already seems to be coming back down, so there's hope. I don't know, other than that I don't have "goals" other than just grabbing whatever I find that I want and can afford.
