I found this item in a California coin dealer's "junk box" in 2014: Obverse: Two knights fighting / QUADRICENTENNIAL OF THE GREAT SIEGE OF MALTA / 1565 1965 Reverse: Double headed eagle holding scepter and crown / SOVEREIGN ORDER OF SAINT JOHN OF JERUSALEM / MXLVIII (1043) Franklinium, 32mm, 16.79gm This item was part of a set manufactured by the Franklin Mint of Pennsylvania for a modern version of the order known as the "Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem". "Franklinium" is an alloy created by the Franklin Mint. It is a copper-nickel alloy mixed with Columbium (Niobium).

I don't know about now but what is known as the Knights of Malta began as the Knights Hospitallier. In fact, I believe that is still their official name.
Yes, they had and have quite a few names. "The official name of the Order of Malta is the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta." (Source ) And here is a blurb about their coins; no images though. Note that apart from the SMOM coins there are several others from issuers with fancy names. Christian
