Been slow to add to purchases, but here is another Tet. I picked up for literally a few bucks awhile ago. The green is just hard copper. Hadrian (117 - 138 A.D.) BI Tetradrachm O: AVT KAIC TPAIAN AΔPIANOC CЄB, laureate head left. R: Bust of Nilus right, wearing taenia, slight drapery; cornucopia behind; L ЄN-NЄAKΔ (date) around. Alexandria Mint, Dated year 19 (134/5 AD) 9.79g 22.9mm Köln 1147 Dattari (Savio) 7450-1; K&G 32.619; Emmett 875.19
Wow, I really like the Tet @Mat . I always thought it interesting how Greek Mythology intertwined with Egyptian Mythology... Nilus, God of the Nile as the GREEK God of the Nile... Nice reverse. I will offer a SMALL coin as opposed to your big TET coin! RI Hadrian AR Quinarius 1.30g, 14mm Rome, AD 119-122 cuirassed laureate COS III Victory seated wreath palm RIC 108a
Super cool @Mat ----and a bargain too I really am drawn to the Egyptian devices on Roman coin....I just wish I had a larger budget.....since I lost a few on bid of late including a nice Hadrian/Nilus Tet.
Love it @Mat. I have an example as well. HADRIAN Billon Tetradrachm OBVERSE: AΥT KAI TΡAIAN AΔΡIANOC CEB, laureate head left REVERSE: L EN-NEAKΔ (year 19), naked bust of Nilus right, wearing taenia, lotus on head, cornucopia on shoulder Struck at Alexandria, Egypt, 134/5AD 8.95g. 24.6mm Dattari 1430, Geissen 1147, Curtis 452,SNG Cop 393, BMC Alexandria 645 var (aegis)
Nice coin Mat! Here is my Nilus. Alexandria. Claudius AE25 Diobol. Nilus Claudius AE25 Diobol of Alexandria. Year 10 = 50-51 AD. TI KLAV KAI CEBAC GEPMA, laureate head right, LI before / AVTO-KPA, bust of Nilus right, child before.
Nice addition, Mat. A coin with a bust of Nilus is on the list. I'll offer up a Hadrian with Nilus, but on an imperial.
Sweet OP-additon, Mat ... I only have an A-Pius Nilus example, but I just finished posting it on ro's thread I know, eh? ... coincidentally ro made a Nilus thread on the exact same day!
