I have put in many hours metal detecting. Oddly, I have never found a silver coin. Last year I finally found my first silver, a sterling bracelet. I have found a large cent, Indian head cents, numerous wheat cents, and a few rolls worth of modern change. Silver always evades me for some reason.

Here is my best ever find and really only good find. I found this back in 2014. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the "S." It is sitting in my dad's collection since I don't collect coins by date (too expensive). I decided to not clean it very hard, so the original dirt is still present. I found a lot of other early date wheat cents in the same area.

That's a spectacular find! I'd take that over the handful of silver Mercurys and Roosevelts I've found. ;)

Nice find. You cold prob let it soak in distilled water to remove dirt.
And then air dry or pat very lightly. VG-08 details?

Dang that is a sweet find. In my sort detecting career I found bullets, pioneer garbage and more memorial cents than I care to admit. Sadly with my back in the shape it is in, I can't spend much time on my feet but I do love to see these cool finds. @paddyman98 routine finds blow me away.

Nice IHC, I would research and determine what is next for such a great find. Best decision is your decision, congrats.

The strange thing is that where those types of coins are found there definitely should be old silver! Are you digging all the high numbers?
Which metal detector do you use?

At that time, I used a Garret Ace 250. I dug up everything, even iron. I upgraded last year to a Nokta Legend. I have become pickier about what I dig up in the last two years. I am sick of bottle caps. I thought a better machine would help, but not really. It certainly helps me pinpoint better. I think that somewhere I have either not fine tuned my machine right or am using bad methods. The last time I was out, I took a friend. He found two Mercury dimes and a silver ring. I found wheat pennies and modern change. Ah well. I like spending time outdoors and doing something fairly mindless to clear my head.

    He's got all of them.
I on the other hand, own just one. Nokta Simplex Ultra.
    Best machine I ever owned!
    Other models good as well.
