    Never would have guessed!
    One explanation could be that old dies cut for Vitellius were used?

    Titus and Vespasian look very much alike, and for good reason. ;) Sometimes, reading the legends on the coin is the only way I can distinguish them.

    No, most don't. Although I have noticed this type does generally have portraits that are very unVespasianic looking. It had to have been struck very early in the reign.

    Here is my other example of the type for comparison.

    It's a possibility. To be honest, Vespasian portraits that look like Vitellius are rare. There are more than a few that have Vitellian traits, but the above coin with its flat out Vitellian portrait is the exception, not the rule.
