Well, I have this photo, and I can't locate the coin, I could have just photo'd it and wanted to do some research. I am not sure, I look back now and hope it is just hiding somewhere.
A coin like that deserves the cabinet of some kind, I can't find it.. the dealer could have just wanted to much.
Sorry. Maybe too much "Ancient Aliens" show and the Original Star Trek. The one from 1966-1969. I was just born in '66, so I'm catching up late.
It's a sestertius of Severus Alexander. I'm too lazy to peruse that volume of Sear's RCV, but it looks like it's PROVIDENTIAAVG S-C. The guy was a bit of a milquetoast, but not a bad emperor.
Severus Alexander A.D. 231- 235 Ӕ Sestertius IMP ALEXANDER PIVS AVG; laureate head right with slight drapery over left shoulder. PROVIDENTIA AVG S-C; Providentia holding corn-ears over modius and cornucopia. RIC IV Rome 642
Any of you have a photo of the ones that may have gotten away? I would have enjoyed adding that coin to my library.
