The first one I have found in 75 years of hunting. The one in my set is an extra found by a friend who was part of our swap club back in grade school. We had trade meets and did not buy and sell. We only traded. Some trades required more than face value.
Looks around VF25/30, low mintage date lists for $6/7.00 or so. Great find! Still trying to find one after 65 years. Of course, I could have bought one but my focus is coins from circulation when hunting and no joy for this one so far. But very joyful for your find, Dave…very special find…Spark
Congratulations! I never found one, even though my after school job was wrapping coins at a local bank in the early 1960s, so I looked through many, many bags of nickels. I did eventually buy an uncirculated one to complete my set, and it had that typical weak strike on the building on the reverse.
Nice find, I bet that got your heart beating a little faster. I purchased one in the early 60s. I remember paying $12.50 for it and I don't think it ever went up in value.
