Whatever happened to Roy Orbison's 100 Corona pendant??

Got to see a guy perform as a Roy Orbison cover at the Italian American Club of Las Vegas this evening. He was their featured guest at the monthly membership meeting, guy named Bucky Heard. He's far more recognized for his lead in The Rightous Brothers legacy band on the Strip. But his Orbison effort wasn't bad, he hit the hight notes without squealing like a little girl.

When I got home, just had to indulge a bit more in something closer to the real thing. This, from (1975)...

Check-out the 1915 Austrian 100 Corona necklace pendant Orbison is wearing. Tried searching on the internet using AI to determine whatever happened to it without any luck. Might still be owned by heirs. With gold over $5,000 - do you suppose it retains any premium?

Definitely, but provenance would have to be shown to get the big money out of it! Good luck if you're into finding it! thumbsup.gif

What is required to get PSA to declare it a concert worn coi
What is required to get PSA to declare it a "concert worn coin" --much like they do game worn jerseys? Call me a skeptic, but I find it hard to believe some of the game worn claims that are attached to sports collectibles. "Our experts have determined these are the shoelaces Don Larsen wore when he pitched his World Series perfect game". Does anyone really believe all of the photo match nonsense? I know I don't. It's as if having all the other provenance information supporting authenticity is enough to get an authenticator to claim indisputably that it's the real enchilada after inspecting photographs from 100 years ago. Or in the case of Orbison's 100 Corona, from 51 years ago. "Look!! It has luster!! It must be the same coin!!"

I still have my 1915 100 Corona restrike I got as a Christmas present when I was 8:D
Its GEM MS for sure, even though a restrike, its a dandy looking coin. I never got an original one, also have the Hungarian one. Do have original 1923 AV 100 Kronen.

My guess is there's many ways to get a certificate of authenticity on it, personally I've never had experience with it but the link below talks about it some. thumbsup.gif

There was an original stiking Hungarian 100 Korona in PF69 that sold on eBay for $1,300 about 25 years ago. Which was a boatload of money with spot at $400 an ounce. But sure wish I would have bid one more time, --I was the underbidder at the close.

Interesting article. My own thoughts: No way is an Eric Clapton guitar worth 5.6 milion, except maybe in his own imagination.

I remember, I won a MS-62 original strike Bulgaria AV 100 Lewa Prince Friedrich I for $2200 Stacks auction 2012. I thought that I had bid too much at the time. But in a Numismatica Genevensis auction, a MS-61 sold for $24K SFs, so guess I made good deal.

It would be nice to have the kinda money Roy Orbison had. He could have bought the 1621 Polish AV 100 Dukaten Sigismund III and the 1629 Bohemia Ferdinand III AV 100/ 50/ 40 Dukaten, plus thousands of other Baroque gold coins:D

I hope we all understand that, for most items, the stamp of an "authentication" service is not proof of authenticity but simply a guarantee that if you successfully challenge the "authenticity" of one of these items that you bought, you will receive some monetary compensation.

I was wondering the same thing. By 1975 when the video was taken, Orbison could have probably afforded a Brasher Doubloon for a pendant. Why such a humble coin?

I wonder about the story behind it too. Perhaps it was a gift from an admirer? Or something he bought when his first record went gold? Surely there's an Orbison fan who can tell us more about the origin?

Mind you, if he would have been dumb enough to mount a Brasher Doubloon on a pendant, glad he never did. Lotta neat coins were treated like crap. There is a ID-MAR Aureus with a hole! Also many AV higher value Dukats with value etched on them. But then, the nobleman or lady that defaced it should have been shot, but when a mint like Salzburg strikes definative coins with 48/ 38/ 35/ 32 Dukaten, why not put value in cartouche like the Bohemia 1620 series? Like this 1681 Bern AV 20 Dukaten....No VALUE! f39fb14378242ac4b819ed826d46ba8f (2).jpg
