The only one I own isn't "holey", it's more "holy crap." Also 1876. It's fun to imagine a dapper gentleman riding his horse and buggy, proudly displaying his centennial coin as his watch fob. I've posted it before (found in the pulper clean-out pit at a recycled newspaper plant), dug it out this morning for new photos.

It has some nice colors though...

Playing catch-up. (Our type for today is the Liberty Seated Half Dollar with Motto (1866-1891).)
Literally hundreds of coins to choose from.

I vaguely remember that story. Sure, she’s beat up, but that was a heckuva find! Definitely did service as a watch fob.

Hello. It is Sunday, March 8th. I hope the transition to Daylight Saving time isn’t messing too badly with those of you in places that observe it.

Today our type is the Liberty Head half dollar, better known as the Barber Half (1892-1915).

I do not have photos of my all time “best of type” Barber half, which was a white 1898 PCGS PR63 CAM with Benson pedigree.

This is my most recent (albeit now sold) Barber half from my slabbed set. Modest grade, but nicely original, and a key date.

And here’s one I recently bought for my holed 19th century type set. I’m going to crack it out to pin it to my cork board, but haven’t gotten around to that yet. I reckon this would have been about a $400+ coin without the hole? I got it for 73 bucks.

NGC gave it PF61. But, they thought it looks like this photo. (Edit: I brightened up the NGC photo so the holder looked white instead of gray.)

I saw the black color tarnish was really a deep blue, so I am glad to have it.

Good photos make all the difference in the world on a coin like that. That’s pretty darn sweet for a 61.
