I usually don't bother with them because there are too many "bidiots", but this was this particular auctioneer's first coin auction, and I was also very bored, amazingly only about 15 people showed up! They had a $5 gold piece, but it sold for $380, which was book price for the grade. 1st score was 5 barber quarters for $2.50 each, they are worn, but anytime there is silver below melt, I take advantage of it! At one point of the auction, a bunch of people started talking and got distracted, I used this to my advantage, and scored a SLQ for $2.00, $1.16 under melt! I got this IHC for $1.00, a little dark, but XF in grade. I got this merc for $1.50, a bit over melt, but a BU example. I got this BU 1921 Morgan for $22.50 A 1932-S Quarter for $30.00, very worn, but still a key date! Whoever priced this was smoking crack. I also got this BU WLH for only $9. Retail is a least $30 This was the best buy....an 1853 BHLC, I gave only $20 for it. I am guessing the grade is VF35? I will let you decide... I noticed after taking the photo a small spot of verdigris..I was able to remove it entirely with the corner of a piece of paper. Last but not least, an Off center dime for $10.
I really like your 1853. I know I'm new to coin hunting but it looks like it's worth a lot more, so I went to ebay and found these...not sure how to compare yet... http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/252174645303?vectorid=229466&lgeo=1&item=252174645303&rmvSB=true
Yes it's worth more than $20. It's $35 in VF-30 and $70 in XF-40, but it's too close for me to tell if it's VF or XF
Very nice grabs! 1/2 of the reason I'm afraid to go to local auctions like this is because I would spend more than I could afford and the other half is that I would be worried i couldn't afford anything! Great deals!!
Nice shopping. I like every single purchase. Let's see the reverse of the 1932-S. Very close to XF-40 on the LC and it doesn't appear cleaned.
