Hello! A friend of mine has loaned me his collection of world coins. An amazing opportunity for me! So, in the quest for knowledge, I'm reaching out to find information. I'm asking you to share your knowledge about this interesting coin: Thank you, friends, for your knowledge and willingness to share. Can't wait! ~Matthew
Full disclosure: I would like to also gather this information and present it in my blog. If you are uncomfortable with my use of this information in this way, then I urge you not to share. But, those who are interested in helping, I will mention you in the blog. I will give credit where it is due. Thank you for your support!
It's from 1973, United Arab Emirates 1 dirham. Mintage of 13 million and minimal collector value. It has the date both in the Western and Muslim calendar, using Arabic script.
Seems to be 1973 I want to share this webpage with you https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces2958.html
You guys are great! Thank you to the folks at Coin Talk forum for hosting my questions. Thank you to Hiddendragon who was the first to provide the numismatic specifications for this coin. This information was confirmed by Paddyman98, who was referred to me by tommyc03. I appreciate your contributions! Hope to hear from you next time...
Hiddendragon is fine for a credit. Maybe you got a private explanation, but you asked about the Islamic calendar. While the Western calendar is based on the year Christ was born, the Islamic calendar is based on the year Mohammad established his religion, so it's 600 years or so different than the one we use. It also is based on the moon phases and has fewer days in a year. Many Muslim coins either give both years or just give the Islamic year. Israel also has its own calendar, as do several Asian nations.
