There are 2 major types of die doubling in this year of cents, 'hub doubling' and machine doubling. Hub doubling is worth something depending on the amount of variation. Machine doubling is a mechanical effect, and generally greatly reduced to just a small amount for interest. Each has physical characteristics that can be identified, some easily , some only with good enlargements. My recommendation is toread the posts in the "Error" forum this post is in and get some reference ideas or look at their photos. Once you have an idea, discussion is usually a little more academic. Read the rules, as we do allow strong discussion on the coin ,, but not on the member. If you feel the need , report the post, and the mods will check it out. That is the long answer. The short one is no. No dime image, and no true ( Hub doubling). But if there is any machine doubling, I couldn't determine from the photo. I hope you stay a while and learn ! Jim ( the guy that dinged you above
If others (pros) do not see what you think you see (I don't see it, either), how would you have them respond to keep you happy? No one here has tried to make you out as the bad guy. I have no idea what you wrote to get edited by a mod, but that kind of attitude can get you bounced.
I am Sorry you are not getting the answers that you want. I have done a little check on this site. And I have never responded to any of your post till this thread. I did read that you cleaned this cent, from your earlier 71D post. Therefore my answer, It would be impossible for it to be Silver, and still be the size of a Cent Welcome to CT
I remember as a kid I cleaned a few pennies (before I knew any better) with some sort of copper cleaner I found under the sink. I think it was meant to clean the bottom of pots and pans. The pennies came out looking just like that, only a little brighter. I was so proud of my work in getting the old dirty penny so nice and bright again. If that penny was from the 40's or 50's that might have been some of my work. Also - you should look at some other double struck coins, like penny on nickel, penny on dime, dime on penny. They don't look anything like what you have.
One thing I've learned is that people here, especially the older and more well-know members, are extremely knowledgeable to an envious level. But they are also very straight forward and frank with their responses. Some do not appreciate that type of response but personally I do - just tell me like it is. I don't think there was anything wrong with the first response you received, you asked what people thought and were given honest feedback. Pickin's comment didn't deserve the response you gave him.
Back in the 60's & 70's, I used my camera primarily for Old Mother Nature. I have a pretty good-sized box of (processed) exposures still in the sleeves. I'd hate to think what it might cost to transfer everything to digital format. Chris
Corrieon, Please look up "pareidolia". This will explain why you think you see Roosevelt. This isn't an insult, but a normal part of the human experience.
I hear ya. Remember shooting photos and having to wait several days to pick them up at the camera shop (or drugstore)? Or this...taking 20 photos out of a 24-exposure roll (or 30 out of a 36) and running the rest of the roll blank to get it out of the camera so that you could take it to the camera shop (or drugstore)? Ahhh, the good old days.
I haven't priced a film scanner in years. But good ones used to be ridiculously expensive. Especially for anything larger than 35mm. I shot 6x7cm for years. A medium format scanner of decent quality was (is?) way more than I could afford.
