Can someone please explain the "magnet test"... I have no clue as what you are testing for What is is passing?
Not sticking? Or really a magnet will slowly slide down the face of a coin when it's silver. I've done this on old junk silver dollars or ASE's that had no value beyond the silver content before just to try it out. Exactly why anyone would recommend someone do that to a proof coin which would destroy the coins value except it's intrinsic value is beyond me. Actually anything smaller than a half is pretty much impossible to test this way anyway as the surface area isn't large enough to really tell.
OK. Thanks for the explanation. I thought it was like testing 1943 Steel Wheat Cents. If it stuck then it's steel!
Well, I've checked all the other Washington proofs and they are all good. Kinda happy with myself that I came across them and hope to find more. Will make a nice book.
