I just hit 7000+ dimes 9900+ quarters so that will be a big milestone and (3600 nickels). This is not including my Colorado hunts 30 years ago, just the New Mexico stuff. Ironically, when I hit 3600 nickels my book count and physical count were off. Usually my accounting is right on. I mean the pennies are correct and there are almost 17,000. I think the quarters are correct but I am gonna count the jar. (I spend the coins and I keep the silver, gold, dollar coins, etc.) So the nickels come up short. I found a math mistake but I was still a little short, so I made an "adjustment". Because the physical count can't be wrong. No big deal. So I am counting the dimes today cause I am gonna spend the 500 in the jar. (I used to use the coin machines at the C.U. but they were constantly shorting me, and then they are rolling their eyes at me when I tell then it was a couple short. So I just slam them in the self serve at Wal Mart) and the dimes came up plus 9 in my favor, so that was an easy adjustment to make and I didn't bother looking for the math error.

Pleasant surprise on my quarter miscount. I always kept jars of 400 because that's $100 and in this jar I thought I had 328. But the physical count showed 338, so only 62 to go for 10,000. Again that's an easy adjustment to make without having to look for the math error. I just pencil whipped it to 9938.

Unfortunately there's less hunting now then there used to be.
Everything changes and rarely for the better.

Hey I've read all 56 pages of this thread over the past years, and I just want to say I've appreciated your thread. Keep up that detecting work!

I don't know why I thought this ring was silver. It's not stamped and I know it is not. (Checked with a loupe.) She will have it tested but I know I am going to have to update all my paperwork when this comes back non silver. ring 2.jpg ring.jpg

I went out yesterday for a little bit. kept running into dead batteries. First it was the pinpointed then it was the detector. And finding Batteries in that area seemed nearly impossible ended up at HD.
I only found around 30 targets, but they were all cents. Some other Misc items that I can throw in the scrap bin.

I use a charger because the 9 volts are so expensive and it extends the life. I also switch them from right to left every time. It seems that one side uses more juice than the other side. Richards rig used 4 double As which cost much less. I just bought some store brand 9V which were half as much, I haven't tried them out yet, I am going through all my old rejuiced ones first. In today's hunt the results were better than my expectations. I used less gas than I thought and recovered more finds than I estimated.
