At that price point, you can definitely chalk that one up as a win! And the coin really ain’t all that bad looking, either.

Hello. It is Monday, February 23rd.

Today we move on to our next type, which is the Liberty Seated Quarter No Motto (1838-65).

Exception: do not post the 1853-55 Arrows at Date coins, as that will be our type for tomorrow.

My previous “best of type” was a nice white 1862 PCGS MS62. But I no longer have pictures of it. So once again, since I lack this type in my present slabbed collection, I must fall back on my “holey” type set.

Good morning. It is Tuesday, February 24th.

Today our type will be the Liberty Seated Quarter Arrows (1853-55).

This of course comprises two distinct subtypes: the 1853 Arrows & Rays quarter and the 1854-55 Arrows, No Rays quarters.

While I presently lack these types and subtypes in my primary slabbed collection, I do have them in my holed type set. But I have no pictures of my "holey" examples. (Not that you probably wanted to see them anyway.) I also have an 1855 quarter in my metal detecting finds album, but no picture of that, either. (It's the only Seated quarter I ever dug. Low grade, but was an exciting find.)

Anyway, in order to contribute to today's types/subtypes, I will fetch some from the "used to be mine" folder.

First, here are two different Arrows & Rays examples, both PCGS VF35. I really liked the second one for its crusty, CircCam look. Might be too dark for some people's taste, but not mine! I like dark toned coins IF the contrast is there. I say no thanks to monochrome dark coins, but if it has CircCam contrast? Yes please! That second coin below was a real "black beauty", if you ask me.

Then, here's an 1854 (Arrows, No Rays) that was PCGS XF45.

This one is graded MS-61. You can like because it's bright and shiney, or you can hate it because it's white and was dipped successfully.

I like it. For circs XF and under, I prefer them with grey contrasting toning, but in MS, I do like white coins.

Yeah, I was out sick and nobody else kept the thread going in my absence.

The CU forum version of this thread (which used to run in sync with this one) is now up to the Type 2 Standing Liberty quarters.

To catch up, let's just use today (Saturday, February 28th) to ...

    Post
any and all of the following types:

    • Liberty Seated Quarter Motto (1866-91)
    • Liberty Head (Barber) Quarter (1892-1916)
    • Standing Liberty Quarter Variety I (1916-17)
    • Standing Liberty Quarter Variety II (1917-30)
Then we'll be back in sync with the CU forum thread, and can move on to the Washington quarters on Sunday, March 1st.

If I'm ever not around to post the new type for the day, step right up!
