I have been going thru coins I have to downsize. Found this Lincoln in one of my albums. It is of a normal size and weight. Just the rims to me stick out like a sore thumb, I grabbed a few 09 vdb's but never really collected wheats unless they had a variety, any thoughts maybe a grade?
I have found some other photos of this coin, whatch out this coin is like a chameleon. It definitely has multiple personalities. The coin above is actually much more red under an indirect lighting certain lights settings set of different tones.
I'm not sure what to grade it but it's a really nice coin. Many of the 1917 Lincolns had a great strike with strong beard details and rims. You don't hear much about this anymore but years ago folks were finding these and they looked a lot like the matte proofs that ended in 1916. Many would argue that there were matte proofs made in 1917 but most said no. I think I remember a couple actually being graded by a TPG as proofs but few agreed with it. Fun coin.
I'm thinking MS-64 RB. That coin is practically walking aura with how many personalities it has at once.
I'm having a really hard time telling if there is wear or not. First guess AU-58, second guess MS-62 BN.
I have to say I myself would think that coin would probably an AU50 grade but If you where to turn that in to lets say ICG you would likely receive a extremely fine grade
I think there is some wear on the left wheat stalk and Lincoln's cheek. I'm thinking AU58, maybe MS60. Very nice coin. It maybe worth grading, maybe.
Thats, what I thought when I saw it, the rim is wide and square, with nice details on the beard. The surfaces have a texture that reminded me of the proof. I did remember discussions we used to have on these coins years ago.
