Well..... Depends on what you are submitting really. Myself, I am an IGC fan. I believe that having coins holdered is simply protection for the coin to be enjoyed by future generations and ICG is quick and cheap. If you are building registries or trying to get maximum resale value then you probably want to go with PCGS or NGC.
Your poll makes no sense... only one of those is a coin grading service. As for your question - I buy NGC as much as possible.
It all depends on what you want graded. Done are better at error coins, other gold coins, etc. Welcome to CT.
I agree, this forum has nothing to do with sports cards, that said I would suggest you use ANACS which you didn't list for whatever reason, makes no difference. If you don't own coins that cost more than $200 you don't need anything more than ANACS to grade your coins, plus you'll get a discount.
I concur with this. I would go ICG first then ANACS second, purely based on how much they charge. Most of my collection is not worth paying a lot to put in plastic. I have a few key date coins I plan to send in this summer and will be using ICG.
It depends upon you want to have graded. NGC is the leading service for foreign and ancient coins. PCGS is the leading service for U.S. coins. ICG is less expensive, but if you have a valuable coin, you won’t get the full value for it.
On the planet Mungo it does. I question why the collection needs to be graded at all. OP seems young and inexperienced and as such, lacks direction and insight. If OP wants something graded then OP should buy it graded. And OP needs to learn how to grade on his own. The more education you gather will sustain you on your collecting endeavor.......
I don't know your experience, but even though I've been grading/collecting for 76 years, trying to locate coins as shown in the pictorial 1977 "OFFICIAL A.N.A. GRADING STANDARDS FOR UNITED STATES COINS"! I often view slabbed coins with a what weren't that TPG thinking? openion, and stopped TPG submission after a terrible personal re-grading experience, PL High TPG Graded coin returned in new slab with no grade! I only purchase "sight seen"/trusted graded coins, even though I've a large quantity of raw silver/gold high-grade coins that can't be submitted today! JMHO
One other factor that might be important is what your plans are for each coin. If you plan to sell them, I would use PCGS or NGC. If you plan to hold them in your collection, long term, I would use ICG. The grading cost would be half or a third of what it would be with the top two services. Another factor is what the coin is actually worth. Most low value coins are not worth putting any money into grading.
Yes, buy the item in the grading service holder that you desire. As a veteran collector of 65+ years, I seldom have items graded. The last time I did was a couple years ago when I had some Confederate currency done. It was expensive and took over three months. The only people who really benefit from paying for grading are dealers. They have access to more raw material by going to many shows or buying from the public. They benefit from high volumes. When was a dealer the usual results were mostly properly graded coins, a few “gifts” which were over graded and a few grossly under graded or unwarranted body bags. Today body bags are “details holders.” The grading services think you will resubmit such pieces which enhances their sales.
I think everyone is glossing over this part. However, you are still missing the only Canadian coin grading services I've ever heard of as having any sort of reputation among Canadian coin collectors - ICCS and CCCS. I have never heard of your other choices besides PCGS. I haven't followed the Canadian forums over at CCF for a couple years, but for a long time ICCS seemed to be the service traditionally preferred. Anecdotally I'd say that has eroded over time - they still only offer a soft flip instead of a hard plastic slab for example. I own many ICCS coins. https://iccscoin.ca/ https://cccs.co/ I had my better raw Canadian coins graded by ANACS. They would be my poll choice if it was available.
The far more important question, what coin are you sending off? Nearly all modern coins cost more to grade rather than to buy already graded. As for service, PCGS and NGC (not listed in your poll) require a membership fee plus the service costs and shipping. ANACS only charges the grading fees and shipping. An average cost (without the membership fee) using the three is around $35-40 with shipping to and from. But there are bulk rates and special offers.
Of the initials you provided, only PCGS is a grading service. That you included other alphabet soup in your poll makes me think you should not send any of your coins to be graded until you learn a bit more about them and about when it makes sense to have coins graded.
