A fellow collector has this 1918. Might be real. Might not. I’m suspicious of the toning at least. His pictures. I’ll get to look at it in about 2 weeks IMG_20260206_120343-1261.jpeg IMG_20260206_120230-1262.jpeg

I share your suspicion, but I guess it's only fair to wait for decent pictures.

Edit to add: even from this single blurry shot, that date looks really bad.

Edit again: looks like there are at least two Etsy listings for similar coins in the $35 range.

Not sure either. Must be assessed with the coin in hand for further inspection. I'm not sure if @paddyman98 has one or not? I'll try to find another like @-jeffB said.

Do you know where he obtained it? I have seen many fake off struck coins appearing on various platforms.

I’ve never seen a coin that thick.

Agree. I also believe a side angle and the weight checked will tell. Oh yeah, is it even Silver if it was faked?

Are you mistaking the off-center strike for an angled view? I can't see any hint of the coin's thickness in these photos.

Intriguing, but I reckon the jury is still out.

(Edit- after comparing one of the ones on Etsy- my verdict is in: bad.)

Yes, it would have helped if the coin was turned so the eagle wasn’t standing on his wing. It needs to be rotated about 45 degrees. Sure looks thick the way it’s oriented.

Unfortunately looks like a fake especially after looking at the ones on Etsy

I concur with Etsy counterfeit coin. Made in China special unfortunately.

At least the seller of the fake on Etsy that I linked to above does mention that it's a reproduction (in the fine print). Of course that won't stop it from fooling the unwary later, after it changes hands.

The gentleman wants to buy a Morgan I listed on CL. We talked for about 10 minutes and I told him I have my error coins with me in Florida this winter. As an afterthought we talked errors and he asked for my opinion on this one. One look told me but I’m just an old insurance guy. I’ll examine anything but won’t tell him it’s fake until the Morgan sale is done.
