I was dumping coins at the coin counter today and at the end I decided to ask if there was anything old or interesting they wanted to get rid of. Needless to say I about had a heart attack when he pulled this sucker out! Never in a million years did I expect to pull a horse blanket from the bank!
Has anyone else here got one similar before? I figure that the size of the note makes it less likely to happen vs a normal silver certificate.
No, I have never found a large-sized note in circulation, ever. I think a Series 1934 $5 is the earliest I've ever gotten. It's pretty remarkable to see something like that turn up in the wild.
Nice! I have got some federal reserve 10, 20 and a hundred dollar bill from 1934 at the bank before and my previous best was a series 1928 50 about ten years ago.
The dilemma with that 1934 $100 was probably the high face value, eh? If it was lower grade and not worth that much more than face value, it would be a problem (for me, anyway) to decide whether to keep it and thus tie up that $100 investment, or spend it, if you know what I mean. A hundred bucks is still a big enough sum for me that it would be a tough call. Particularly since I don’t personally collect paper money.
Yes that is most certainly a dilemma. I consider it my savings Account that can be spent if needed. One day I’ll take out the paper money collection and take some pictures.
