Yesterday I received the last coin I needed to complete my Siscia mint set for Constans. Coincidentally, each are from a different officina. I picked the last one needed up from Victor Clark. Constans A.D. 348- 350 20mm 4.5gm DN CONSTA-NS P F AVG; pearl-diadem, draped, cuirassed bust left with globe in hand. FEL TEMP REPARATIO; Emperor bare headed and in military dress standing, holding standard with Chi-Rho on banner in his right hand, resting left hand on shield. Two bound captives standing to the left. In ex. ESIS RIC VIII Siscia 224 I also received a couple other FTRs This one is a decent Antioch FH, but also is an unlisted variant. Constantius II Antioch, AE 2 D N CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG, laureate, rosette-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right; reverse FEL TEMP-REPARATIO, Gamma in left, soldier spearing Horseman, hair in braids, bearded, clutching, ANZ in ex Not in RIC. Similar to Antioch 135 The last was a greatly appreciated gift. Billon centenionalis of Constantius II Arelate, officina 1; 348-350 CE 19mm x 21mm, 2.78g. D N CONSTAN-TIVS P F AVG Pearl-diademed, draped, cuirassed bust left, globe in right hand. FEL TEMP REPAR-ATIO Helmeted soldier, spear in left hand, advancing right, head left; with his right hand he leads a small bare-headed figure from a hut beneath a tree. The spear points upwards and to the right. Star in upper left field. Ex. PARL RIC VIII Arles 108; LRBC 400 BW Ref: 089 054 169 ex moonmoth
Super fun completing a collection set! Congrats @randygeki ! I actually have four LRB's from Siscia! That is unusual for me as I do not collect LRBs. Ok, so THAT set is done... what is your next target???
Thanks all More fallen horseman a hut type from each mint, other FTRs lol Aside from that I am 1 away from a 12 caesars, need Vitellius.
This new Cyzicus is from a show today. It is interesting in the way the patina failed to form over the remaining silvering. How successfully the photo shows this may be questioned but it is not bad. I used more ring light to give more reflection from the silver patches. In hand, wiggling the coin under direct light gives this look. My other coins of Cyzicus also show the rear hoof of the horse on top of the shield. I have not researched this to see if it hold generally.
Nice. A few of mine do Aside from what I mention, I like this set enough and may try for other mints, not all though.
Wow, geki => congrats on completing that sweet mini-project (man, I love that feeling!) You rock! (cheers)
