Cu-Ni clad MS-state S mint 1976 half dollar

Discussion in 'Coin Chat' started by willard t frye, Mar 4, 2017.

  1. Does anyone know if MS-state Cu-Ni clad 1976 half dollars exist with S mint? It appears all MS-state 76 halves were all silver with S mint mark. Before I make a purchase of a 76 half presented to me recently I want to verify that one could exist. Upon examination it appears to be MS and does not have prooflike features.

Silver S mint state coins were minted in proof and mint state, but the S clad are all proof per the Red Book.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that all Bicentennial Kennedy half dollars struck in San Francisco, both MS & PF, were silver clad (40% silver).

The San Francisco 1976 "Business Strikes" (in quotes because they were only offered in a 3-piece Bicentennial Mint Set) were clad as well. The interior was 79% Copper/21% Silver, and the cladding was 80% Silver/20% Copper.

Exactly as the Proof composition, in other words.
