What is the "FIRST" thing you notice on this AU coin?

I too see a misplaced earring, (could be the light), a possible clash and an AU coin that looks XF.

The first thing that caught my eye was the area above the star. Looks like a clash but I can't match it to the reverse.

 

First thing I saw was what looked like a "D" Denver mintmark to the right/East of the ear

 

I see a bunch of people trying to get Insider to cook his brain. The steam is already rising through the ear

 

Nah...his brain is already cooked.

 

What is the star doing there in the bottom right? It looks off

 

I think I'll hire him to write my ebay descriptions!

Miss Liberty has a unibrow?

 

The eyebrow area sure looks flat in relation to the hair above the ear, almost looks like the brow and cheek were hit with a blunt object, or maybe an incomplete strike, tho' not where you usually see it. There is something below Liberty's chin too, so maybe a defective planchet? Possibly whizzed too.

 

Star in field does appear out of place. Horizontal gouge E of Liberty, two diagonal die gouges below L I of Liberty. Gouges through cotton boll stems.
The earring looking anomaly in hair...Is that a reflection of the lens of your imaging device?

 

Longshot noticed the eyebrow area looks flat. It is and that's because the coin is an AU. That is not the answer. Neither is the gash, the star that is half out of the image but where it should be. The "earring" to the bottom right of the ear is a "dig" into the coin. One edge is pushed up in the direction of the punch.

This is not a trick - it is useful training. Once I reveal the answer you are going to palm slap yourselves.


Ok, try this. Pull up the image in the OP. Pretend it is in your hand and you are looking through a 3X hand lens. All you can see is this part of the coin. Look at it. Now think to yourself how would you describe what you are looking at to someone who cannot see the coin. What do you see?

We are training our eyes in this exercise. I'll start:

1. I see part of the obverse of a Morgan dollar. It has a yellowish color. One member posted the white balance is off.

2. Now it's your turn. What is the next thing you see?

 

No marks on her pretty face, a couple of prominent marks on her forehead, here the surface looks "rougher". Cleaned? Smoothed/tooled? Or is it due to an overuse of tanning lotion? Does she look orange in hand!?

 

@Insider , the title of the thread is asking us for the first thing we notice, yet you say we're all wrong? Did we lie to you? Lol. Then you wrote,

So really you want the second of third thing we see? I'm confused.

 

1st) Nicks on the forehead
2nd) Tooling or intentional rubbing over entire cheek to conceal what looks like what was an even more prominent gash on the cheek.

Recessed area under chin some sort of damage. And extra point on star below that

 

Heavy dings on the forehead, and obvious circulation wear. The lighter areas of the cheek and neck look a little funny, maybe played with somehow, but maybe just the picture. I didn't get a PM in response to my whizzing theory.

 

Yes guys. Looks at the hair detail. There's no way the cheek and forehead got that kind of VF wear without affecting the hair. It looks like a VF in AU clothing. Plus look at the nics, the edges are smoothed. Like I said long ago it was slightly whizzed the artificially toned to try to hide the evidence but it didn't turn out well. Some are catching in now. I don't know what insider "sees first" but if it ain't that...

 

I see no evidence of whizzing whatsoever. Cleaning is more accurate. Whizzing does much more damage. But the reality is we will never know with this one limited pic...

 

True it's not typical whizzing. I should be more specific. Selective whizzing or polishing or tooling, on the cheek and forehead.

 

The curls above the ear shows slight wear?
