United States: 1907 gold Liberty Head quarter-eagle ($2.50) PCGS MS64. Cert. #38912944. Numista-13432, Krause-Mishler-72. Mintage: 336,294. Ex- Michael Swoveland, dba WNC Coins, LLC, Asheville, NC. Date of purchase unrecorded (circa 2021-2022). Purchased in the slab. This is an attractive example of the final year of the Liberty Head quarter-eagle design. It has nice clean surfaces and attractive luster. I bought this one before the steep rise in gold prices. As of this typing in early 2026, its PCGS priceguide value is more than twice what I paid for the coin. 040000
Yeah that's a beauty, a stunning gold piece and I happen to have a couple, as usual not in the same league as yours but still I'll show mine with a smile anyways. First off I have a California gold rush year, this is actually my best one! Then I go to a pendant someone made that I like and lastly I go to a Canadian token that apparently liked our US design.
I have decided to put together a set of $2.50 gold coins from the 20th century. I have had a set of $2.50 Indians in a Capital Plastic holder for a long time. The pieces from 1900 to 1907 are considered to be "common," but the mintages are not that large ranging from 67,000 for the 1900 to 336,294 for the 1907. The grading on these coins seems to be on the strict side. This 1900 is graded MS-62. I have owned this piece since I was in high school. I bought it at a store called "Rogers Photo" which was in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The owner moved Arizona many years ago. This 1907 is graded MS-67. It is my type set piece. The only date I don't have is the 1902. I almost bought one at FUN, but it was graded MS-66, and it had a mark on Ms. Liberty's nose which I didn't like for the grade it had received.
Very high end QE, Lord M.! I have one bought years ago, raw, on eBay; it has somewhat PL surfaces: when I bought this, spot was around $850/oz. I shudder to think how many of these are going to be melted down.
I have a few, here's my 1873. Sorry for the bad image, sooner or later I'll make new inventory photos that aren't blown out, dark, OOF, etc.
