It's been raining all day here in central Missouri. Can't do anything outside, so this afternoon my 7-year-old son and I sat down at the kitchen table armed with magnifying glasses and a big box of random world coins. We've had a lot of fun going through them, sorting them out, and finding unusual ones.

It's mostly UK coinage but with a smattering of other countries too. Nothing special or valuable. Dates range from early 1700's to the present.

This colorful little 1974 "New Penny" caught my eye, so I took some photos just for fun.

Anyone else enjoy doing this? What are some of your "rainy day" coin finds?

These and similar bronze(I think) British coins from this era sometimes get some really nice color!
