Your Cent is Copper plated Zinc. Whenever there is extreme exposure to the elements such as water the Copper is affected and opens up to expose the Zinc. Then Zinc Rot occurs. That is all it is. Nothing to do with acid

It looks like it came from the mint like that. As if the zinc inside the coating was already like this before it was coated in copper and died or stamped don't really know what it's called. You can see the zinc on one of the narrow edges where it was worn.
