Received this in the Mail today to make a Ring out Not really Numismatically inclined, but don't want to ruin something that has Numismatic Value. So I guess the question is: is this Coin worth more as just that and is it worth Grading?....
The toning seems neutral, so not much extra value there. In MS 63 holders (NGC or PCGS), these sell for $40-$55 (so not really worth grading). I'm not sure if the VAM adds value. @SuperDave ? As others mentioned you could pick up an even cheaper Morgan in the $20 range, but if there is nothing rare about this one, I'd say go for making it into a ring. However, let's wait for a few more comments first.
@SuperDave not to kick a dead horse, but I was wondering what your position is on Repousse...or is that a No No too? (Cited from: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1884-o-morgan.292242/)
My feelings are no different. These coins are history. There was a whole bunch of Ming pottery at one point, too, until people wantonly destroyed it because it wasn't that valuable. You gonna burn 150 year old books in the fireplace some night because you caught a chill? This is not personal, and I don't wish to be seen as attacking you in person. I just feel very strongly that the most important aspects of numismatics are our responsibility to maximize the chances of those who follow us to enjoy the hobby as much as we did, and our responsibility to safeguard the history we're temporarily in custody of. Anything else is wanton, arrogant destruction.
