I rec'd a $1 note with 00000122 as the serial#....are these low serial# notes worth anything over face value?
yes i agree i have a five dollar bill that i bought over the counter at the shop for $15 and i purcased it from my boss for the same amount, the serial number has a bunch of zeros and a 16 its in circulated condition 1963 series and a currency dealer told me it only had a value of about 50-75 dollars so its not extremly rare or at least it isnt worth much now.
Sorry...can't seem to post pic......it's not really in my field of interest, so off to eBay it goes!! **Is there something wrong with selling this on eBay? Clembo's post in this thread (#7) seems to imply I've done something wrong???????
Super low serial number I see the note has made it's way to ebay. I also noticed some star notes "plucked from circulation". A bit of unsolicited advice here. If you're going to sell star notes etc. list more partictulars. Series and a grade (roughly) can be very helpful. A little reading can go a long way in this endeavor. Anyone can pull star notes from circulation. I have at least a few thousand dollars worth. Just selling them without any real info is the sign of a bad seller IMHO. I sincerely suggest doing your homework before you sell. CoinTalk is a great place to learn but reading can be really helpful as well. clembo
Well, thanks for the "advice", I guess. My idea of a bad seller is one who oversells their items...I can't recall anyone being chastised for underselling their stuff! The star notes I have listed are exactly as I described them- plucked from circulation. I don't know how you interpret that but these are notes that I rec'd in change back at the gas station, grocery store, etc. Geez, you try to be honest & represent something (of not much value by the way) simply & somebody wants to give you grief over it?!?!!?:headbang: Am I off the mark here guys?
I'd say unless its older you're fine. You're just selling modern star notes, and people can see that from the picture. If you had something older though, then you'd probably want to put some more information.
No there isnt i think what he is talking is that he thinks you should keep, but he probley is like me and is a currency collector and would never dream of selling it, but to some people it dosnt intrest them, and as for the star notes they are worth nothing unless they are in (CU) coindition you are just wasting your money by keeping them unless you just have a set of them or somthing but what i am trying to say is to sell those dont keep them.
My apologies if I came off a bit harsh. Wording can be so tricky can't it? I was NOT implying that you are a dishonest seller. I checked your feedback and your other auctions as well. After all YOU DID supply the link. Besides, HOW could I argue with 99 cent starting bids? I think the subject matter was clear but I guess only to me. More information can be very helpful in selling any product. In the case of star notes series and condition are VERY important. This is where I suggest research. Know what you're selling THEN sell it. Star notes are NOT rare for the most part. Some, on the other hand, are very rare. One can not determine this without some research. That's my real point and if I offended you I'm sorry. Like I said it's unsolicited advice. As for the low serial number - I hope you do well with that. It's a note worth buying just by the serial number itself to many. clembo
I think you misunderstand the listing entirely! You assume I listed the stars because I thought they were rare or hard-to-find. I can assure you I know exactly what they are, hence the low starting price & brief description. Hopefully, someone who wants/needs them can pick up a bargain.
I think he was just trying to offer some advice on how to improve the amount you receive from the auction by offering the buyers some extra information. Not hype, just facts. (And I'm not implying that you have hyped anything in your auction, I haven't even seen it. It is just that so many people do, but it is better to be factual without hype.) It just come under the general idea that an informed buyer is a better buyer.
I would keep the note. Low SN like that are commanding a premium. I did not see a pic so I am wondering what series and Fed Rev Branch? Please post a pic... I have several $5 and a few $20 with 3 digit low numbers but in the 475- 476 -477 range. Nice find... RickieB :thumb:
I don't have any with that low of a serial number yet. Maybe one day I'll luck out and find one. I'd keep it for sure.
Thanks for the comments, guys. Since I don't really collect US paper (I am a foreign paper collector) I put the note on eBay...here's the link so you can see what it looks like: http://cgi.ebay.com/2003-A-1-00-SUP...ryZ40029QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
