whats so funny about "funnyback"? I prefer the design, albeit it is different from modern note, but no reason to call it funny, its more like elegant-back...lol
The backs considered funny due to the change in the backs the notes used to have until it was redesigned.
As much as I like this bill, I do think it looks like funny money from a board game. I do have some certified ones around here somewhere.

Allot of the Military Payment Certificates i collect have the same "Funny Money" look to them, but they are truly works of art
Explanation I always heard was that it was considered similar to play money (which is "cart in front of the horse" thinking IMO, because play money was designed to look similar to real money lol). I wouldn't call it "funny" either but like "Mercury" dimes that don't actually depict Mercury, or "Buffalo" nickels that actually depict a bison, once a name sticks it will continue to be used by almost everyone. I remember some commenting that they thought it made it look like Monopoly money, which is ironic since actual Monopoly money doesn't have any design on the back.
