Good morning, and welcome to February 7th. We'll now move on to our next type, which is the Liberty Head Nickel No Cents (1883). I do not currently have one in my primary (slabbed) collection, but here's one I have in my giveaway inventory. I reckon it is one of those "super-slider" coins where I personally can't quite tell if it's an AU58+ or an MS62-63. It's got the luster, anyway. Want it? You can enter the giveaway here. That particular giveaway lot also includes a reasonably decent Type 1 Buffalo nickel. (Yes, my pictures suck.) For once I will spare you the sight of my "holey" example, since it seems I do not have a picture of that.
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to February 8th. Today we move on to our next type, which is the Liberty Nickel with CENTS (1883-1912). (Or -1913, if you have one of those to post.) Here is mine. It has subtle pastel toning which appealed to me. Here is the example from my “Holey” type set. It’s really not bad for a holed piece.
1909, the most common Proof Liberty Nickel. The reason is collectors had to buy the two piece, minor coin Proof sets to get the three cents in Proof. The grade is NGC Proof-66, Cam.
It is Monday the 9th, and time for us to do the Buffalo Nickel Type 1 (1913). Make sure you don’t post a Type 2 Buffalo yet! That’s tomorrow. It is only the 1913 Type 1 coins today. Here’s the nicest T1 Buffalo I’ve had. It had a @crazyhounddog pedigree. I affectionately called it the “Jolly Green Giant”. I shouldn’t have sold it. At the time, I think it was part of a misguided purge to limit myself to a “Box of 100”. That didn’t work out, thank goodness. Here’s one that’s in my giveaway inventory. It’s part of a lot that also includes an AU-UNC 1883-NC nickel.
^ @AcesKings was a tiny bit early with the T2, but that works, because... Since it is now Tuesday the 10th on the East Coast, it is now time for our next type. Today we will do the Buffalo Nickel Type 2 (1913-1938). Here's mine, in a rather modest MS grade. Just something I got as part of a larger swap lot, so I just decided to stick it in the collection. Eventually I want to upgrade it, but for now, I reckon it's good enough to fill the slot.
I'll post these two raw Buffs up because they're sentimental core components of my collection. These were given to me by my grandmother, the person who got me started on this lifelong journey of coin collecting. Like Rob, @lordmarcovan, and his sentimental Thanksgiving Day mercury dime. My two Buffs were the genesis of all my coins. The very first two. Thank you, grandma
