Boys Town Centennial 2017 Three-Coin Proof Set is limited 15,000 set, which is coming out on March 9th . But the individual are ($5.00) gold proof is limited 50,000 set. The silver pr dollar and the clad half is 300,000 set. So is the US Mint thinking we are stupid or what ?

I don't know, but I'll bet you a dollar that PCGS and NGC are going to come up with some kind of special label for coins in the 3-coin set. Maybe they'll even do a multi-holder (doubtful).

What is the point of putting a special or different holders, I mean like montage is where the numbers are at and try to sell something that might or might not increase in value.

I think you're reading it wrong.

The UNC & PF half dollar each have a mintage limit of 300,000 for all products.

The UNC dollar has a mintage limit of 350,000 for all products.

The 3-coin set has a mintage limit of 15,000 for all products.

In other words, of the 300,000 half dollars and 350,000 dollars, 15,000 of them will be used for the 3-coin set.

    That's my understanding.

I imagine they make a nice piece of change from every cockamamie anniversary or commemorative set they produce and make a commercial calculation of just how many people they can sell these items to.

There really is not much to connect these things with coin collecting, the story of the Emperor's new clothes applies here. They'd make a set of Presidential Dogs if they thought they could shift enough of them.

Welcome to marketing. Next time you'll be walking in the supermarket and call all sorts of packaging stupid just because it just doesn't seem to make sense.

When I bought my 3 coin set of 2008 Bald Eagle Commems, I paid about $25 less total for them in individual packaging, than in the 3 coin set package.

What they should do with new commems is slap a sticker on them "New and Improved" and raise the price $50 ....

Presidential DOGS?! Wow. I think that's actually going to happen someday.
    Seriously.

I don't know about where you're from, but where I live, people are fall-on-their-face gaga over cutsey little pets.

Just look at the subject matter. My God, the mint will have a field day:

    To answer your initial question:
"Is (sic) the US Mint think we are stupid or what or am I reading it wrong ??"

Yes, the Mint "is" think we stupid, we prove it regularly.

Second, this is not an unusual product breakdown. There are 50,000 gold $5 coins to be sold, of which 15,000 of the proof version are set aside for the 3-coin set. There are 350,000 clad halves available, of which 15,000 of the proof version will be set aside for the set. There are 300,000 silver dollars available, of which 15,000 proofs are set aside yadda yadda. What's wrong?

Third, I'm buying EXACTLY two of the six coins - half and dollar in uncirculated format - no proofs, no gold.

Fourth, a new U.S. Mint release timed for the opening day of an ANA show where I'm working. Oh yay!

I have a hard time believing these will have the hype or interest some of the others did other than maybe to get the first one sold

See? That's where ethics come to play. I have the means and opportunity to make SURE my coins would be first sold. But I won't.

I will, however, be keeping my two hand-signed slabs I get at the Legacy Dinner - Salzberg and Montgomery. I paid in full, just like everyone else.

If there's a "show label" (not usual for the Spring show), I might buy an extra Boys Town half to get slabbed. I usually just keep 'em in OGP.

Other than the baseball and the Kennedy I actually don't even know if that carries any weight for the overwhelming majority of things

Has anyone noticed that Pepsi is offering a "Wild Cherry Pepsi"? The can is nearly identical with the only differences being a tiny pair of cherries above and to the right of PEPSI and "WILD CHERRY" written below in very small letters. It's very easy to overlook both which may mislead shoppers into thinking they are opting for regular Pepsi.

Some vendor was advertising a US Trump $1 coin just the other day. It actually had a denomination on it.

I can't seem to find it anymore ...

aren't those identified with "$25 MSRP" or something like that.

I just saw it the other day in an ad. But couldn't find it after that. So I can't really be exact on exactly what I saw but it had a "$1 Dollar" on it. At least I thought it did. lol
