It's @lordmarcovan fault. He showed a 1915 Panama Pacific gold coin the other day, so I ventured to a local coin show hoping to come across one with the cash to buy it, if priced right. It was on my list of coins to acquire which I stopped buying probably 9 years ago. But none were at the show. but I did pick up a few: On my "get" list was the 1924 Huguenot, along with a few civil war tokens that I don't have. The light & plastic cover messed up the 1837 Merchant's Exchange image .. it's not that bad in person.
COINgratulations! The “Our Little Monitor” is my favorite CWT type! And presently the only CWT in my slabbed collection- though perhaps not the last. Looks like you got a nice one. There is a CWT in my current giveaway inventory, too. I like those Webster HTTs with the shipwreck on ‘em. Ships on coins are an all around good theme. I have never owned a Huguenot half dollar. Once saw a very well-worn example that a metal detectorist found not far south of here.
Was chatting with one guy who had a table and was selling his dad's collection. Sold most of it by the time I wandered by. In chatting, we both raced bicycles decades ago and he was going to try and ride with the club I ride with, on the days I ride. So I told him how to recognize me (I'm very recognizable vs everyone else) when he shows up. but he has a recognizable beard so hopefully he'll show up to our rides this coming year. Another dealer was just getting started this year in selling stuff. I bought a few of his ASEs as they were priced pretty good. One of these days I may start collecting Gold & Red label paper money. Always wanted some.
