Good morning, Numismatists! So, I've really been getting in deep with the coin roll hunting lately, and I think what really kicked it into high gear for me was finding silver in a roll of pennies! And when I say silver, I actually mean, real silver. When I peeled back the wrapper, there was a distinct dark tarnished gray band that was unmistakeable. I really wish I was filming that day. Anyway, when I pulled it out by the edges, it was like no coin I had ever seen. It was, in fact, a Mexican 20 Centavos piece from 1928! What a find! Never knew about it. Had to look it up, and WOW! I've been doing a box of pennies a week ever since!
When I first got some halves from my bank, I was only able to get about $72 worth as that was all that the 2 banks in town had. Anyway about my 4th roll in I opened the end and had a Benjie looking back at me. Ended up with 2 benjies, a %90 and a %40 from that one roll. I've searched about $260 worth so far and haven't found another. Maybe the next one Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
My favorite is the Walking Liberty Half. I've been doing some slow, single roll hunting with zero results. But, that's all going to change now. I just ordered a $500 box from the bank and it should be here any day now. I'll be making videos as I hunt through it, if you want to join in on the hunt I'll be posting the videos here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6XQ4I8isUubtqBiB_qxD7w Also, if I find anything interesting, I'll take some time to research it and write about it on my blog: CoinRollin.blogspot.com You're welcome to comment and contribute your numismatic knowledge if you'd like.
My first encounter with CRH was after I read some blogs about what people were pulling out of banks when silver was at $43/oz. I tried my luck at a local TD bank - the teller had a packet and in it were $30 face in 40's including two 1970-D's in BU. I was hooked from then on.
I was working at dunkin donuts and found an wheat cent that had vdb on the bottom. I had seen wheat pennies before but being there was something different about this one I was curious. turned out to be an AU 1909 P LC VDB.(couldn't have been an AU 09 S right??) where I went to buy magic cards had a coin department.(and baseballcards, and jewelry, and gem stones) I showed it to the guy and he looked it up in the book and said it was AU valued at $18. I looked at him and said "you're telling me...this penny...is worth 18 DOLLARS???" CHA CHING!!! hooked ever since.
Collected as a kid, and as I got older it took a back seat to things more popular with kids my age - baseball cards, music, etc. A few years ago I found a silver quarter in change, discovered a few blogs and communities of roll-searchers and decided to start buying a few rolls of change while cashing paychecks. One of the first times I asked a teller for half dollars, I got 3 silvers (1 Ben & 40%'s), and shortly after that I had a few more big scores of $10 or more FV in silver halves.
