Yesterday, I found a large overflowing amount of change in the Coinstar return slot. There was so much that the chute the coins fell through was clogged up. Here's what I found: 135 Lincoln cents [1934-P; 14 coppers] 30 Nickels [1972 was the oldest] 8 Dimes 1 1972 Quarter Total: $3.80 Not bad eh?
The best haul I had ever gotten before was actually last week. I saw some unusually large coins in the return compartment, so I scooped up everything, and took a good, hard look when I got home. I had got: 2 2009-D Presidential Dollars (John Tyler;10th-James K.Polk;11th) 1 nickel, 1 dime, 1 penny Total: $2.16 This past week must have been birthday luck because yesterday was my birthday lol. The Dollars were also my birth year too!
The Coinstar was backed up both times I went in today. In the tray was what looked like a quarter and a dime. Pulled them out and went thats a silver dime. I flipped the quarter over and yep that was a Silver too. I said let me check for any stand up coins. Pulled out another silver dime.
My best Coinstar find, a couple of years ago, produced 14 Kennedy half dollars ... eleven 40% silver and three 1985 cameo proofs. All were in UNC condition. I can only guess that some collector found himself in urgent need of cash. But for whatever reason the machine didn't recognize the Kennedys and he didn't stick around long enough to figure that out.
