Aha! Old ANACS, eh? I still say it would have a shot at 64 nowadays. Maybe not "65 on a good day" as I previously guessed, but that's a pretty strong 63. Of course nowadays they have those weird "plus" grades, so maybe it would get a 63+. Who knows. Nice coin, regardless of the technical number on the label.
The old soapbox slabs generally come with a premium that I don't mind paying. For one thing, it's numismatic history, and another, I just like the simplicity of them.
They are also getting scarce, I don't see many of them at shows anymore. Either they are getting cracked out, or people are collecting them more. I figured with the high price of silver, that more would come out of hiding, that was not the case.
There are still runs of them showing up on eBay at times. The main problem is that the better ones have been cherry picked over the years, it's tough to find the nicer ones.
Sometimes I wonder what I am missing out on, then remember that I don't want to have to deal with sending any coins back. I like B&M shops, I know what I am getting.
There isn't a lot to worry about if you limit it to slabbed coins, just keep an eye for fake slabs. There are plenty of those in PCGS form, especially key dates.
