I did a post previously about getting snookered by this outfit. And I keep bringing them up to save my friends from making the same mistake as me. They got me as Gold Standard Auctions, but I have seen their handiwork show up under various names..... Closely circulated is not a numismatic term so they use it like a Venus fly trap to lure you in. When you see these gobbledygook descriptions used on a coin.... Run!
I have dealt with them in person a number of times. A very shady outfit, no doubt. They intentionally hit shows and take the most bottom of the barrel coins including harshly cleaned VF coins to sell as "closely uncirculated". At my last job, I saw a woman who was conned out of $60,000 from them. When she came to sell, she got less than $5,000.... I'll leave it at that. I would never compromise my morals for a quick buck
Never heard of them. Never heard of Closely Circulated either. If I’ve never heard of a coin term it makes me question them and the use of that term. It’s either circulated or not. There are obvious degrees of circulation but closely is not one of them.
I can't speak to their ethics, as I fortunately have never done business with them. But look! They are really ignorant, apparently. Never mind the nonsense term of "Closely Uncirculated", which is absurd on so many levels. (It’s a PO01 coin, for starters.) That "Roman denarius" [sic] is a late 18th century British King George III copper. Not only would a Roman denarius be a silver coin, not copper, and much smaller, but that British copper was made about 1,500 years later than the last Roman denarius was ever struck! Anyone who is dumber than this dealer and would buy from them based on a listing like this almost deserves what they get. Note I said almost. PS- it is a good thing the OP did not include the price that these chuckleheads are asking for that little Gem, or I'd have injured myself by bashing my head against my keyboard.
I recall them selling in Kansas by another name. The phone number to contact them was a clue that they were the same shysters.
